Rogue Sounds- Jupiter and Beyond the Infinite (Free Album Download)

Rogue Sounds is an established instrumental rock trio from Anaheim, California with a desire to make instrumental rock more accessible to music fans. Combining the post-metal cinematic sludge of Isis, the astral and ethereal soundscapes of Junius, and the grandiose instrumental schizophrenia of Russian Circles, Rogue Sounds is an amalgam of experimental noise from some of the most respected mad scientists of moody metal.

On their new album, Jupiter and Beyond the Infinite, Rogue Sounds deliver an onslaught of constantly evolving compositions that orbits one corner of the rock and roll universe to another in a matter of minutes, cycling from metal to industrial to space rock to drum and bass and back again. Songs like "Wormsign" and "25th Parallel North" illuminate the band's best attributes, which are soaring compositions laced with spacey guitar work and punishing hard rock percussion.

Jupiter and Beyond the Infinite is available as a free digital download, but can also be purchased (pre-ordered) on vinyl. From the same store, Rogue Sounds have a few awesome t-shirts and other records available for purchase.

This Means Nothing in Mexico (Indie Rock/Pop)--  Vancouver trio that dares you not to groove to their single "Spirits" off of their brand new unveiling, Year of Thunder, now available as a free download.

Rogue Sounds (Instrumental Rock)-- Formed in the summer of 2008 to create more accessible instrumental music. The band currently resides in Anaheim, CA and has released 2 EP's, 2640 & Transmission. Most of 2011 was spent writing & recording 'Jupiter And Beyond The Infinite' which was released for free download/no minimum donation March 10th 2012.

Tokyo Raid (Garage/Psych Rock)-- Serving up a ferocious, fuzzy, Rohyphenol-laced cocktail that fuels the bloody collision of neo-psychedelia, garage, post-punk and glam, San Francisco’s mercurial Tokyo Raid effortlessly pull off the difficult trick of being simultaneously iconic and fresh.

Equals (Instrumental Rock)-- "The densely layered songs all have their distinctive storyboard of moods and textures, each one a lovely surprise yet all five somehow melding together to form a cohesive, cinematic whole." Click here for a free download of their self titled EP.

Planet Asia (Hip Hop)-- New music from underground hip hop legend Planet Asia's latest record, Black Belt Theatre.

Remember, new bands pop up on the site 1-5 times per day, so check back in with us. You might be missing out on your new favorite band!

* Click the band's name to hear their music.

Films of Colour (Indie Rock)--  Films of Colour are Andy Clutterbuck (vocals), James Hatcher (guitar), Jack Allinson (bass/synths) and James Rees-Flynn(drums) who together create a sound of remarkable density that incorporates layers of synths and emotive guitars that draw comparisions with the likes of Foals, Arcade Fire vs early Bloc Party, Radiohead, aswell as shades of Miike Snow and Muse.

Ben Rector (Pop Rock)--  Ben Rector is an American musician based in Nashville, Tennessee. His most recent record, Something Like This was released in September 2011. Through word of mouth the record charted at #1 on the iTunes Singer/Songwriter chart, and climbed above Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter IV to the #4 spot on iTunes, albums overall, bested only by Lady Antebellum’s same day release, Coldplay, and Adele. Rector’s songs have been featured on One Tree Hill, Drop Dead Diva, Pretty Little Liars, Teen Mom, ESPN SportsCenter, and ABC’s Modern Family fall promo.

Green River Ordinance (Alternative Pop)--  This fall season marks the 10th Anniversary of Green River Ordinance as a band. In 2009 and 2010, GRO saw tastes of much sought after success: 2 Top 40 radio singles, songs on over 20 TV shows ("So You Think You Can Dance", "The Hills", "The Young & Restless"), 2 music videos on MTV and VH1, tours with American Idol winners David Cook & Kris Allen, Goo Goo Dolls, Collective Soul, Train, Lifehouse, and many others. GRO's Original Song “Rise Up” was featured on the AT&T Team USA 2010 Winter Olympics Soundtrack alongside Mariah Carey, 3 Doors Down, Train, Rascal Flatts.

Midway Still (Alternative Rock)-- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Midway_Still

Run on the Sun (Indie Rock)-- After performing alongside megastars Bruno Mars, The Black Keys, Cee Lo Green and Mayday Parade, appearing on Howard Stern, and playing festivals such as The Bamboozle and Virgin Mobile FreeFest, Run On The Sun has proven themselves to be a band that’s worth hearing.

Shady Maples (Folk)-- Bay Area singer, songwriter and guitarist Owen Roberts and San Diego's beer brewing lap steel wizard Greg Peters formed Shady Maples in 2010 after touring California as a duo. The band's dynamic sound is soulful and gritty with hard hits and bone shivering melodies. Influenced by artists from Iron and Wine to Radiohead, Ben Harper, Fabrizio De Andre and Sam Cooke, their music does not sit comfortably in any one genre but bends between rock, americana, folk and latin.

Kid Jerusalem (Alternative Rock)-- Alternative quintet from Carmel, NY.

Wiretap Crash (Alternative Rock)--  Long Island, NY post-hardcore rockers.

How To Operate Your Brain (Alternative Rock)-- We saw stars. We saw spaceships. We heard songs of the ages and saw lights in the eyes of our enemies. Now we see nothing. We sit in a cave in the dark and revel at the sound of dust settling.

Opaque Nature (Folk)--  Opaque Nature are a Midlands (Leamington/ Coventry) based band. We play our own brand of new folk/ alternative music, full of energy and hope as well as some more mellowed out intimate music. It has been described by Pete Donaldson as "blissed out folky loveliness, like Kirsty Maccoll and Jeff Buckley all rolled into one."

Georgiana Acchione (Classical)-- A beautiful rendition of Domenico Scarlatti - Sonata in D major L46.

Dikembe (Alternative Rock)-- Gainesville rawk.

Flip Cassidy & The Junkyard Gospel (Folk)-- The Reverend Flip Cassidy is a rusty man who plays rusty songs on rusty guitars. The Junkyard Gospel is a howling, raging acoustic sound bellowed forth with a voice like a rusty saw blade. His solo performances are known to be highly energetic and infectious, surprisingly loud, and have even caused rippling, whiskey-induced fervors in audiences, fellow performers and bartenders alike.

Giraffage (Electronic/Instrumental)--  "...A blissful blend of dreamy and ethereal fluttering sounds sprinkled with glitchy effects, quirky drums, and beautiful vocal samples. This is definitely some of the flyest damn music around. Listening to the album is akin to dancing on a cloud while drinking the magic fermented nectar of wood sprites."

This Week On BandSoup (2/20-2/27)

Another week in the books and yet another week of great uploads here on BandSoup! Here are a few of the bands that you must hear according to an unanimous vote from the BandSoup blog team. Remember, new bands pop up on the site 1-5 times per day, so check back in with us. You might be missing out on your new favorite band!

* Click the band's name to hear their music.

Leatherbag (Indie Rock)--  Leatherbag is an American power trio from Austin, Texas. After relocating to Austin from Houston in 2005, Leatherbag was formed by songwriter/guitarist, Randy Reynolds. The band's new and final form finds Drew Emmons wired on bass and Danny Blanchard wild behind the drums. The band has performed at the Austin City Limits Music Festival and at the SXSW Music Conference.

The Foot. (Alternative Rock)-- Hailed as one of Denver's top rock acts, The Foot. entered the national scene at New York City's CMJ 2010. Urb Magazine declared them "one of the 15 acts you wish you saw at CMJ" alongside such acts as Das Racist and Two Door Cinema Club. After making several swings across the country, playing some of the most prestigious venues at home, and playing with some of the most respected artists on the national stage, The Foot. has begun work on a series of EPs, the second and third which will be released in early Spring 2012.

Funktion (Funk/Hip Hop/Jam Band)-- Funktion, the 7-man band based in Kalamazoo, MI, delivers their blend of funk-rock and soul with a hip-hop beat.

IG88 (Electronic)-- Branden Clarke, otherwise known as IG88, would maybe like to fool you into believing that he and his buttons are buried somewhere in between a spray of ambient elation and the sands of a remote desert planet – but there’s something else here. Something tangible and soulful, something raw and quick. Something like the full breath of a thunderhead, the shards of sparks following a blunt and sonic hit to the nail on the head.

Acid Baby Jesus (Garage Rock)--  ABJ represents the future of heavy psych'n'roll from an isolated, ancient civilization. Combining the ruthless elements of American outlaw roots music and celestial glam rock, like fellow deconstructionists Demon's Claws, "LP" suggests the Rolling Stones at their wearied best, with the electrifying hi-jinks of Brian Eno bulldozing the swagger into the darkest corners of the cosmos.

James London (Singer Songwriter/Folk)--  Hailing from Portland, Oregon, James London’s debut EP, “Where Do We Go From Here,” soars with memorable melodies and complex, layered arrangements. From the lush, spacioussplendor of the opening title track, to the moody ... swaggering conclusion of “Bad Seed,” the songs onthis record provide a shimmering, sometimes psychedelic, sonic landscape in which to get beautifully lost.

Beecher's Fault (Alternative Rock)--  In their first year, Beecher’s Fault has become a key player in the local music scene of Astoria, NY. The pop/rock band has played an impressive amount of shows at prominent NYC venues that include The Bitter End, Sullivan Hall, and Pianos. Though only a trio, their live performance has frequently been described as a “wall of sound” that captivates audiences as they light up venues with an energy that is more akin to that of a six-piece ensemble.

Mofo Party Plan (Indie Pop)--  It's fancy and "Dancy".

Muffler Men (Alternative Rock)--  Muffler Men is a power trio from Ghent, Belgium with an alternative rock sound that leans towards stoner rock.

Louder Space (Reggae Rock)--  Louder Space formed in San Luis Obispo, CA on October 5th, 2011 when bassist Oren Ben-Joseph and drummer Philip Tyler joined up with singer Chris Kaye and guitarist Clayton Daly. Meeting each other at a party, the group instantly connected on similar music tastes and the desire to jam together. Since then, the group has been rocking out and working hard to make new exciting music.

The Ready Aim Fire! (Synth Pop)-- Synth-driven indie rock from Walnut, CA.

Kung Foo Grip (Hip Hop)-- Eff Is H & Greg Cypher. Two MC's making that fresh coast hip hop that never gets old. Relevant, independant, & definitely dope! Lyrical, classic, hungry, and versitile.

Zombie Western (Instrumental Rock)-- The aptly named Zombie Western is a four piece instrumental post-rock band based in Waco, TX. The band's influences are clearly apparent in their music, their name, and the intensity of their performances. The careful blending of the dramatic elements of film with the subtlety of layered instrumentation come together to create their textured sound.

Tea Cozies (Garage Pop)--  Steeped in garage rock and british indie, Tea Cozies take influences from guitar-driven pop bands as Blur, Elastica, and the Pixies.

La Palma (Instrumental/Modern Jazz)--  Modern Jazz, soundscapes, and classical instrumental music.

Karvel (Alternative Rock)-- Karvel are a three piece alternative rock band from London, Twickenham. Karvel have achieved so much in so little time. Having only been together a year, they have worked with the likes of Jim Abbiss (Bombay Bicycle Club, Adele and Kasabian) and Adrian Bushby (Foo Fighters, Muse) as well as performing a live acoustic session on BBC Radio London.

Runaway Brother (Alternative Rock)-- Fueled by a wide range of bands from Say Anything to Death Cab for Cutie, and Third Eye Blind to Tegan and Sara. Released their first two EPs: Mr. Saturn & The Bull Moose Party and have been working on their debut full-length album. Split EP with The Pattern Traced out this Fall.

Pola.A (Electro Pop)--  Pola.A, from the Flexible Friends label out of Versailles, France, is a multifaceted artist that can be best described as pop meets electronic folk.

Tha Geeks (Hip Hop)-- Tha Geeks are three MC's from Cleveland Heights, OH who spit dope rhymes on their own original beats.

Blak Lyons (Rock)-- Rock and Roll quartet from Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Slow Suicide- Ghost (Gost') (Free Album Download)

When I first listened to “Snow Fall (Snova)” by Slow Suicide, I immediately envisioned innocent children playing in a wintery landscape. Despite the brooding and cynical feeling to the song, I also felt a feeling of hope for a better world peak through. The second song featured on Bandsoup, “Black X (Chernoe)”, is another story. It is a haunting soundscape that begins with noisy, hissing sounds that will either immediately turn you off or hypnotize you into continuing. I chose the latter to see where the song would go after the mechanical noises faded and soon after the song transitioned into a smooth and cinematic sea of guitars. That's when I found out Slow Suicide's m.o. is finding the beauty in the unusual.

I found their latest album, Ghost (Gost), and fell in love with their intimate instrumental music that's deeply influenced by rock and roll and moody electronic music, but with an absurd noisy twist (I hear Brian Eno and Glenn Branca). Ghost (Gost') is available as a free download and is a must listen for fans with an open mind and those that can find beauty within the madness.

* Click the band's name to hear their music.

Colour Coding (Indie Pop)-- Together, Chris Holland and Tim Commandeur make Colour Coding.
They cut their musical teeth in Gold Coast pop band Operator Please and now these two cousins have embarked on their own musical venture. This is their first infectious single from their upcoming EP, Perfect.

Animal Empire (Indie Rock)-- A progressive rock band from Rhode Island that just finished their new record "Complicate the World" which is now available.

Crozet (Chill Wave/Electronic)-- Crozet is a computer-based bedroom project started by John Helmuth while he was living in Philly finishing up his senior year of college. John added Sean Lee to the mix and now the band builds cities made up of dreamy synths, reverb drenched vocals, and hard hitting drums.

A Name Unheard (Indie Rock)-- Click here to check out our 60 Second Review.

Blue Sky Black Death & Nacho Picasso (Hip Hop/Dope Hop)--  Ethereal production Blue Sky Black Death team up with Seattle MC Nacho Picasso on their second album, Lord of the Fly, now available as a free download. Nacho is the new generation MF Doom for dopers and goons. One liners for days.

Fort York (Folk)-- Fort York, a 5 piece folk band from Toronto, grew out of a handful of fortunate circumstances. There was a house on Brunswick street in Toronto with a small lamp-lit basement filled with old sleeping bags and bike parts. We cleaned it up and made it into a cozy practice space. The house had a back deck on the 3rd floor too, with an ample supply of exposed nails and rotting wood. That’s where we were able to write a lot of the songs on this album.

Days of Rae (Folk Pop)--  As a challenge to ourselves, an offering to our wonderful supporters and in general a really fun project; Days of Rae will be writing, recording and releasing one single each month throughout 2012. We will be distributing each song completely free of charge on as many social platforms as we can think of.

Vultures of Venus (Electro Glam Space Rock)-- This Melbourne band take inspiration from seedy and speedy urbanity to create their unique brand of Electro Glam Space Rock. There is a sense of fearlessness to the sounds and themes that is rare to find in an Australian band. Their energetic performances are influenced by some of the starkest, most danceable and lascivious music of last century.

Backburner (Hip Hop)-- What Backburner refers to is a diverse conglomerate of creative individuals who concern themselves with hip-hop spread throughout various areas of Canada.

Dirtybird B. (Instrumentals/Hip Hop/Electronic)-- Two songs off of Nor Cal hip hop producer Dirtybird B's new album, Hard Work in Paradise.

Slothrust (Grunge)--  "Slothrust is the perfect soundtrack for brooding on a gloomy day and would be a good way to psych yourself into finally telling your boss to go fuck himself (please exercise caution for the latter). Melding clean, bluesy guitar riffs with lo fi, scratchy vocals, the trio from Bronxville is strangely reminiscent of Morphine... only not really."

The Dysfunctions (Alternative Rock)--  Sydney band that presents a fresh collection of post-modern rock anthems that revive the beloved guitar sounds of the 90s with a 2000s electro edge.

FreeForm Records are now pleased to present Innobushu's newest offering: Distraction EP.

Hold Your Horses! (Polyphonic Pop) -- Hold your Horses! is a franco american seven-headed, fourteen-handed, polyphonic monster from Paris. Meshing, with the know how of proverbial idiot savants, rock and pop, wood and brass, the voices of boys with those of girls with those of foreign calls.

Import/Export (Indie Rock) -- Soft rock, Alternative, Western Swing. A song about stupid young people, naivety, and mid-summer scotch.

Surgeon- Surgeon EP (Free Download)

Surgeon is a St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada based group of post-rock phoenixes that rose from the ashes of a previous instrumental rock project called Narrows in 2008. After adopting a darker, heavier, and structural vibe to their music, these practitioners of prog, led by leftover Narrows members Steve Cowan and Andrew Wicks, went full speed ahead into another realm of instrumental rock and came up with their debut self titled EP that we bring you today.

Unlike many other post-rock and math-rock outfits, Surgeon are careful to avoid weaving compositions that are under developed or overly complicated; instead, the band combines moody multi-layered melodies, waves of intricate guitar work, and a rousing rhythm section that seamlessly flow through multiple genres while still offering audiences music that's easy to digest. Instrumental rock is a still a niche genre, but Surgeon is one of those bands that could entice a new brand of listener because they understand how not to alienate the average joe while keeping the attention of listeners that are searching for a musical mind fuck.

On their six track EP, Surgeon first lures you in with the aptly titled intro, "Spectrum", where they begin with a sequence of pulsating hard rock riffs that eventually splash onto a shore of trickling guitars and dreamy percussion before looping back into a nightmare of metal. "Octomom" opposes the intro as slow tentacles full of ethereal electronic noise, hypnotic bass and drums, and layers of guitars and eastern woodwinds slowly swirl in circles before the song breaks off into a fast and hopeful swim. The band then shows their various talents with the meat and potatoes of the album-- "Silverfish", "Doso", and "Solar"-- where Surgeon's song composing, expert musicianship, and knack of playing within the heart beat of instrumental rock's cardiovascular system surges through each epic twist. The grand finale, "Rat King", is exactly that, culminating everything the band did throughout the EP in one last dramatic song fit for everyone's end.

The music on this EP is almost two years old, so it will be interesting to see where the band goes next with their music. For now, this emerging Canadian outfit is looking to leave their Newfoundland shores to explore the world and are hoping that this EP gives them the wings to do so.

The Redneck Manifesto

The Redneck Manifesto is a five piece instrumental rock band from Dublin, Ireland made up of Mervyn Craig (drums), Richard Egan (bass), Niall Byrne (guitar), Matthew Bolger (guitar) and Neil O'Connor (keyboards). Since their formation in 1998, the band has become one of Ireland's most sought after live acts and popular bands and have proudly achieved this status strictly through their own DIY means, promotion, and releasing records on their own label.

Video for "We Still Got It" off their 2004 I am Brazil album.

Since 2001, the band has released four touted albums, the most recent being Friendship (2010), which they recently shared some songs from on our website. It has been six years since their last record and the excitement and urgency is instantly heard on the opening song "Black Apple" which bursts from the core at breakneck speed into a haphazard and seamlessly cluttered math-rock exhibition. The beautiful disaster continues with upbeat explosions of sound, transitions, funked out grooves, and rousing riffs.

The Ireland press is already calling the album one of the band's most complete, refined, and best albums to date and claim that fans will instantly form a bond to the album's friendly and optimistic sound. To sum things up in once setence: if you like instrumental rock, meet you new best friend.

Cure for the Common

If I came up to you and said, "BOZEMAN, MONTANA IS BRINGING BACK THE FUNK!", my guess is you would punch me in my molars. But, it's true. At the hands of a multi-talented Bozeman based quintet that go by the name of Cure for the Common, funky dance floor grooves have returned with a vengeance.

Since the first jam in December 2008, Cure for the Common has sought to bring together great friends, good vibes, the funkiest jams, and a smash it all into a blow-out, get-down celebration that refuses to go quietly into the night. Music is the cure, and CFTC is out to free ladies and gentlemen everywhere of their daily pains. To accomplish this task, Logan Stahley and his dazzling trumpet weave screaming ribbons of spicy latin funk into Weston Lewis's heavily groovy guitar, distilling a crazy-potent shock to your senses. While your head bobs in anticipation of the next lick, Joe Sheehan and Jordan Rodenbiker sculpt the musical pillars of groove that you must feel to believe. Once you're bubbling, shaking, squirming and sizzling like an earthquake is deep in your hips, superb synthetic sensations blend with Garrett Rhinard's own secret recipe of keys, rhythm, and rhyme to blow the lid off of this highly combustible mix, relentlessly sending the dance floor into overdrive.

This is easily heard on their debut self titled album that was released this past April, which features nine funked out jams covering a multitude of genres from funk, alternative, jam band, pop, reggae, latin, and hip hop. If you are a music nut, a fan of jam bands, and dance in public like you do in the shower, Cure for the Common is a future Bonnaroo show stealer ready to alleviate all your funkless ailments.

For the moment, you can purchase Cure for the Common's debut album on their bandcamp page and name your own price.

Glimpse Trio

Glimpse Trio are an awesome band from San Leandro, California that fuse numerous genres together with a steady stream of fantastic guitar work and instrumentation. Here are a few live videos from the band to get a feel for their sound and ethos, as well as some background information and linkage.

Glimpse Trio spontaneously creates engaging music that approaches the unknown and borders on the psychedelic. Downbeat Magazine Editor Frank Alkyer described the trio as "a furious blend of rock, jazz, blues, punk and metal fused with infectious folksiness." Alkyer continues to describe the new release by stating, "For those who grew up on the great fusion explorers, Glimpse Trio offers up a next generation. For those who like improvisation with a slice of punk, slacker and metal attitude, it's got to be 'Glimpse Trio.'"

Cleveland native Mike Sopko, known to have the "fastest hands west of the Mississippi," is, according to renowned guitarist Marc Ribot, "conceptually, one of a very few people who can really play." In 2006, Sopko's band, MCR, toured with celebrated frontman Mike Watt and legendary drummer G. Calvin Weston, as well recording with Weston. Most recently, Sopko was featured on Dosh's latest single, "Subtractions," on Anticon Records.

After graduating from Berklee College of Music, Bay Area native Hamir Atwal became one of the most sought-after jazz drummers on the scene. After extensive touring with bandleaders such as Greg Osby and becoming a staple at places like the Village Vanguard (New York) and the Green Mill (Chicago), Atwal joined Sopko in 2010 to create Glimpse Trio.

Jym Murry studied classical guitar, voice, and music theory at Chabot College, Hayward, and sang in chamber, jazz, and acapella choirs both at Chabot and UCSC. Murry co-founded bay area rock/funk band Stereo Freakout and in 2007 met Sopko, inviting him to play lead for SFO. Together they played 50+ shows at venues such as SF's Great American Music Hall, The DNA Lounge, and the San Leandro Sausage and Suds Festival. Murry joined Sopko and Atwal in 2011 to complete the GT line-up.

GT is looking to redefine the rock/jam-band scene through staggering live performances and recordings. With the release of "1985," their first full-length, studio release, they are now seeking labels for distribution and touring opportunities.

The trio also post free downloads of their live sets on their website. You can like & talk to the guys on their Facebook page here.

Free Album: The Big Mean Sound Machine- Ourubros

Ithaca's The Big Mean Sound Machine is a 10 piece ensemble that fuses elements of afrobeat, garage rock, funk, jazz, and dub rhythms to provide western New York with some of the dirtiest, fattest, grooviest beats ever heard. Seamed together by an amazing rhythm section of Angelo Peters on Bass, Andrew Klein on Drums, Bryan Davis on Percussion, Rob Tate on Organs, and Dan Barker on Guitars, the core of the group commands attention while providing a passionate and constant groove. Combine that with the talents of Bobby Spellman on Trumpet, Emily Pecoraro on Tenor Sax, and Remy Kunstler on Bari Sax, and you have polyrhythmic monster.

Known for their passionate and exhilarating live performances, TBMSM have been genre-bending together since early 2010 and have so far released LIVE @ Castaways, The Big Mean EP, Tongue Power Single, and most recently, their debut full length album Ourubros. If their other free releases merely remained local treasures, then it's Ourubros that will give them the global admiration they deserve. This 10-track opus flows seamlessly from start to finish, mixing all the elements that TBMSM claim to cultivate in all their music into one sublime and hearty sound stew.

Below you can find the free download of their new album Ourubros.

Click on the artist name below to listen.

Seven Summits (Indie Rock) -- Seven Summits are Rory Nellis, Dominic Coyle, Francis McCrory and Joe Laverty. They use a range of guitar & synth sounds to create melody-driven alternative music.

The band had a busy year in 2010. After their solid self-titled debut, they recruited some new members and were put forward to play the BBC introducing Stage at Glastonbury. In December, to top off a great year, Seven Summits released their first single, “Burning Heart”, to critical acclaim.

Drama King (Instrumental Rock/Guitarist) -- 7 new instrumental rock tracks from Drama King. Great guitar work on "Option Explicit".

Galaxicon (Sludge/Metal) -- Although often lumped in with the burgeoning doom/sludge/riff-worship scene, Galaxicon's take on heavy music is equal parts death/black metal and prog/classic rock. It is loud, destructive, experimental, but deliberate, meticulously constructed to convey something more than just "heavy." Songs such as "Rapture of the Deep" and "A Man Should Remember His Past" offer crushing riffs, atmospheric blackened melodies, and dynamic shifts in phrasing and syncopation.

The Heavy Empty (Instrumental Rock- Looking for Lead Singer) -- A melodic rock band that just released a great demo album full of infectious instrumentals. They may or may not be looking for a lead singer-- interested? (New York City area)

Holy City Zoo (Alternative Rock/Post-Punk) -- 4 dudes from New Brunswick, New Jersey that make highly energetic tunage.

Mercury in Summer (Pop Rock) -- Mercury in Summer is a critically acclaimed Art-Pop band from Washington D.C. Their new album "In Your Face" was recently released on iTunes on May 17th. The video for this song can be seen here.

Killing Grace (Southern Rock) -- Killing Grace is a Hard Rock originals band started in Middle Tennessee in 2006 by Matthew Dee Edmondson, Clarksville, TN (songwriting/ lead vocals/ production); Doug Barnes, Franklin, TN (songwriting/ guitar/ production); and Lee Darby, Hendersonville, TN (song arrangements/ percussion/ production). The mission for these three Middle Tennessee artists was to compose original Hard Rock Arena Anthems that are diverse, fresh and hot.

Rosebud (Indie Rock) -- Check out their great single, "You Dance Like You Fuck".

Big Jaw (Alternative Rock) -- Big Jaw sounds like The James Gang sharing a Coke and two straws with Queens of the Stone Age.

Vices I Admire (Alternative Rock) -- Vices I Admire is an alternative/indie rock band straight outta Denver CO. Download their latest album for as little as 1¢. Check out 6 tracks from the band at the link above.

Farewell Disaster (Alternative Rock) -- A hard hitting rock band from Macon, Georgia that are currently promoting their new album, Disbelief.

Skint and Demoralised (Indie Pop) -- Lyric-based alternative indie/pop 5-piece based in Wakefield, West Yorkshire. New album 'This Sporting Life' due out early July.

SMB Project (Alternative Rock) -- Floaty dreampop sequences mixed with blasts of shoegaze reverb characterize SMB Project, a four piece alt rock group based in Orlando, Florida. SMBP is often likened to early 90s rockers such as Smashing Pumpkins, Sonic Youth, and the Pixies, as well as current indie shoegaze pop groups like Silversun Pickups. Watch the video for their song Lights & Sounds here.

Look North (Pop Punk) -- Look North, out of Rhode Island, is the newest addition to the Asava Music/District Kills family, and the debut artist for Asava Music Group. Fronted by YouTube sensation, Rod Pires, Look North delivers a driven pop-rock sound, and coupled with an absolutelty unforgettable and passionate live show. Look North just finished recording their debut a EP at Maximum Sound Studios in Danvers, to be released this summer on Asava Music, followed by a full touring schedule, so stay tuned for tons of new stuff coming from the Look North dudes.

The Steven Hackney (Instrumental Rock/Guitarist) -- Steven currently has 35 songs on BandSoup for your enjoyment. Steven Hackney has over 430 songs, 17 guitars, 5.5 years of playing, and 3.5 years of songwriting and recording. Specializes in distorted electric guitar, Bass guitar, reinventing acoustic guitar tunings, and drum beats.

Jesse Rhodes (Acoustic/Singer-Songwriter) -- Singer/Songwriter from Santa Barbara.

CanyonLands (Pysch-Rock) -- Tragically underrated droney pysch-rock.

Lee Younger (Acoustic/Singer-Songwriter) -- Demo record from a Knoxville based musician.

Rachel Louise (Pop/Singer-Songwriter) -- Holland based Singer-Songwriter that just released her debut EP, Living in Holland. Vanessa Carlton/Regina Spektor-esque.

Turning Torso

Turning Torso is the instrumental rock project from an unknown 20 year old guitarist/producer from Mexico named David Sánchez. On his debut album, Walker, David mashes up waves of dreamy guitar notes with islands of digital drums and psychedelic noises, forming a serene instrumental experience comparable to the breakdowns of Minus the Bear, Explosions in the Sky, and Bibio.

Turning Torso's Walker album is available as a free download on his website, which can be accessed through his BandSoup upload where it says 'artist link'. I think what the young David Sánchez created in his bedroom studio with an electric guitar and modest recording tools is intriguing and full of potential. This album is a small moment in music where we can thank technology and embrace what it can do for emerging musicians on a budget.

Insightful

San Diego hip hop producer Insightful has just dropped a gem on BandSoup. His new album, The Flowers in My Mind, is a 28-track instrumental album full of pure electronic energy that slowly scales buildings built of binary code, blows through gardens of fiber optic flowers, and swirls through the back of your eyelids like blessings from Buddha when played.

"Got No Eyes" is a perfect example of what the entire album has to offer. You can stream the track on the main site by clicking here.

Smooth, sleak, and surreal-- this is what 2011 should sound like.
