Shiny Penny & The Critical Shoes (Alternative Rock)-- Often known for their "musical chairs" on stage, SPCS rotates instruments every few songs on stage to produce multiple styles and sounds. Also known for their wild, funky breakdowns, combined with Dean's strong yet melodic vocals, Brad's bluesy yet heavy guitar solos, and Dustin's tasteful beats and bass lines, SPCS looks to be a force to be reckoned with in the music world.

Afterlife Parade (Indie Rock)--  Raw and deeply triumphant, Afterlife Parade is a Nashville based indie rock band that's sound combines life's hard fought wisdom with the roar of street cadences and ticker tape; music that beckons hearts to march.

Matt Wilson Band (Rock)-- Matt Wilson Band, a four piece highly versatile rock n roll band, is fronted by piano/singer/songwriter Matt Wilson. Matt is an incredible entertainer, band leader who tailors each show for his audience. It's a wildly entertaining night that keeps audiences on the dance floor to the very end.

Dot Square (Indie Rock)-- Devised in 2005 by singer/songwriter Jason DiBartolo, "Dot Square" is an ambitious outlook on the contrary side of the world today. With swirling guitar textures, subtle driving melodies, & dramatic rhythms, "Dot Square" tackles the mind and aims straight for the mood.

Color Me Blind (Hardcore/Rock)-- Color Me Blind has established a unique sound that highlights both their musicianship and utter love for music. From brutal head-banging licks to catchy choruses, there is no doubt this band loves to test the realm of Hardcore and Alternative Rock.

Karvel (Alternative Rock)-- Karvel are a three piece alternative rock band from London, Twickenham. Karvel have achieved so much in so little time. Having only been together a year, they have worked with the likes of Jim Abbiss (Bombay Bicycle Club, Adele and Kasabian) and Adrian Bushby (Foo Fighters, Muse) as well as performing a live acoustic session on BBC Radio London.

Remember, new bands pop up on the site 1-5 times per day, so check back in with us. You might be missing out on your new favorite band!

* Click the band's name to hear their music.

The Scholars (Alternative Rock)-- Shimmering, hook-laden rock music from Oxford, UK. The Scholars draw inspiration from post-punk, New Wave, and rock in an attempt to make sense of a confusing media age.

Whores (Grunge/Alternative)--  "Whores is relentless and merciless in its sonic attack: Its gigantic walls of fuzz and thunderously colossal low-end rumble recall The Melvins’ refined sludge; the epic, primal howls, feedback-heavy rests and meticulous precision recall the best of The Jesus Lizard and Karp. Simply: Whores f#!king slays. Period."

Weird Dreams (Indie Rock)-- With a unique sound influenced in equal measure by David Lynch’s liminal, hallucinatory worlds, and acts as varied as the Beach boys, T. Rex, The Tammys, Syl Johnson, O.V. Wright and Smashing Pumpkins not for nothing have Weird Dreams been described as “the most exciting new band in London”.

The Average Engines (Alternative Rock)-- The debut album “Battlesuits” arrives like a large scoop of ice cream in the deepest winter; a bitter sweet combination, painfully if you eat it too fast, but extremely delicious anyway. Following on from their EP “If Dali Broke My Arm It Would Sound Like This”, they come with the goods on their first long player, published on their own label Brutkasten, containing a mixture of Indie, Stoner, Prog, Alternative and a little help of Pop. Average Engines bring a lovingly handmade debut to the fore.

3 1/2 (Garage Pop)-- Leila, Legz, and Tizza are 3 1/2, Co Wave's Los Angeles bedroom doo wop rock trio that are impossible not to like.

XBloome (Electronic Rock)-- XBloome is an Austrian band, joining electronic drum- and synthesizer sounds with classical instruments like violin, trumpet and bass into a smooth blend of ambient disco trip-hop.

The All-About (Indie Rock)--  The All-About is a synth-based power-pop project maintained by Zac Coe in and around Central New York, musically devoted to exploring the enduring connection that exists between pop music and catharsis. Described by producer Oliver Ignatius as "one of the most lovely dissections of the blisses and anguishes of a failed love affair to come out in years," the 2nd LP, Winterpop, is a "pop-soul-synth-punk opus," and it's available for free right now at: http://theallabout.bandcamp.com/.

Groj (Electronic)--  Brainwashed by the visionary sounds of Krautrock giants and the rapturous explorations of Richard D. James, in “Promised Land” Groj interprets themes of trust, self- deception and private fantasies. Under the influence of a minimalist implosive system and tangled in an abundant and hypnotic electro-acoustic foliage, the album comes through with a unique sense of simple delivery.

The Missing Season (Dream Pop)-- French duo that just released their third album, The Last Summer.

A Yawn Worth Yelling (Indie Rock)-- A Yawn Worth Yelling is composed of five members from San Jose, California. They released their debut album, 1,000, in 2011.

The Black Black (Indie Rock)-- The trio creates their own brand of groove-heavy punk rock. Rock solid rhythms juxtaposed with powerful, driving bass lines and spastic guitars; all tied together with classic melodies. It's rock music that sinks into your bones and requires you to keep turning it up. The Black Black released their first EP "Music To Sell Drinks To" in January 2012 and will be playing shows all around the Northeast this Spring.

Kubatko (Electronic)-- A czech music composer and DJ.

The Few (Blues/Funk/Rock)-- With a passion for vintage, The Few deliver retro vibes, fine-tuned for modern times. From their original stage setup to their custom made Becker instruments and rigs, The Few does it like no other. With a sound often compared to the Black Keys or Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, The Few creates a riffy, blues charged vibe, dripping with rock induced jams.

Kid City (Indie Pop)--  Eerie electronic pop from new Toronto duo that just released their first EP.

Moody Gowns (Indie Rock)--  Moody Gowns are a band who are quintessentially British for all the right reasons. They champion that wry wit and charm that all of history’s greatest Brits possessed. They couple it with light-hearted cynicism that is undeniably funny. They don’t take themselves too seriously; yet they are more real, true to life and down right important than any other band on your radar right now.

Lower Lands (Alternative/Punk Rock)-- View our blog post from last week here. Lower Lands is a young quartet from the cathedral city of Lincoln, United Kingdom that blend a spry and spirited mixture of alternative, pop, and new millennium punk rock. Last year they released their free debut EP, This Was Not Our Greatest Endeavour, a noisy yet catchy foray into the land of post-hardcore. This year the band plans to release another EP entitled Growing Pains featuring the lead single "Reality in Routine". As seen and hard in the video/single above, it's obvious that the lads from Lower Lands have already endured those growth pains and are now reaping the benefits.

Eager Eyes (Alternative Rock)-- An emerging rock quartet from Alameda, California. Their self titled debut is available now.

I Self Devine (Hip Hop)-- Chaka Mkali, also known as I Self Devine is a musician, Mc, community organizer, racial justice trainer, graffiti artist, muralist, program coordinator and director of organizing and community building at Hope Community Center in Minneapolis. Stay tuned for the new album The Sounds Of Low Class America coming May 8th, 2012!

Devin Levi (Electronic/Indie)-- Music from Devon Levi's new album, Here's to Now, a blend of electronic music and live instrumentation that Devon likes to call "artistic alternative".

The Creech (Punk/Alternative)-- Punk/Hardcore band from Germany.

Hot One of the Week: Impo & the Tents

This semester has me confronting what I consider a huge class in my college career, Honors Punk Rock and Society: Critical and Comparative Perspectives. With that in the back of my mind I decided to go through some of the punk music being fed to BandSoup. Now, as I listened to the music designated as “punk” on BandSoup I came to ask the same question my professors did this week, “What is punk?” The word, the genre, and the environment that we know as punk is much more eclectic than we even realize. Folk punk, pop punk, alternative punk, hardcore punk, and electro punk are just a few of the variations you can find on BandSoup. I was looking for a more “classic” example of punk rock music and eventually I came across Impo & the Tents

This Swedish-trio has had five releases over the past year and they are riddled with great examples of the total package when it comes to punk music. The vocals, bass, guitar, and drums all come together in nostalgic, lo-fi recordings that to me are just as magical as some of punk’s most influential records. Sadly, this act only has 244 fans on Facebook, but ironically most of their YouTube videos have just as many or more views. Despite the lack of fan representation, believe me when I say you need to get on their Bandcamp page and listen to them. Go get some free downloads and share/embed that stuff all over! Great punk rock is easily crammed into songs shorter than 3 minutes each and these guys accomplish that with precision. Look for fun tracks such as “Pretty Temptress”, “Four Eyes”, and “Ugly Girl”.

Listen to Impo & The Tents on BandSoup

An intelligent punk name, fun and catchy music, and that genuine garage feel…what could be much better than that?

Like them here!

60 Second Review: Protagonist

Protagonist can best be described as “punk for the new age.” With a sound in the same vein as Fugazi and Bad Religion, Protagonist presents Bandsoup with their own blend of punk rock fused with hardcore influences.

Their new EP “States,” (released on Paper+Plastick Records) proves once and for all that this band can rock with the best. "Destination Desolation" is a track that punches you in the face from the first chord and never stops punishing. The stand out track, for me anyways, would have to be “Sirens.” This song, with its flawless guitar work and lyrics for the realist in all of us, is over before you know it, but makes you want to play the short but sweet 1:58 over and over again. It’s hard to pick one element of this bands latest release that sticks out, mainly because of the non-stop musical assault from each band member, so you might as well grab the free download below.

Their DIY work ethic and non-stop touring seems to be paying off for these five young dudes from Florida. Check them out for yourself because my sixty seconds of writing do not do them justice.

Five Knives- UN EP and White Light Riot (Video)

Five Knives is a loud, abrasive, and spastic electro-punk quartet hailing from Nashville, Tennesse that I was glad to find a few weeks ago. Led by the captivating cries of lead singer Anna Worstell, Five Knives bounces between heavy industrial rock soundscapes (All Fall Down), streams of party fueled electronica (Vive Le Roi), infectious trash-pop vocals (RATTATATAT, The Rising) , and in your face punk rock (White Light Riot). Instead of knocking on the doors of The Grand Ole Opry like most emerging Nashville outfits, it sounds like Five Knives want to burn them down.

In the beginning of the month, the band released their debut UN EP, which they are currently offering as a free download. They also released the first visuals from the album in the form of a video for the single White Light Riot directed by band member Lamar Baptiste.

Concert Review: Pop-Punk's Not Dead Tour

What is pop-punk? Well, at the turn of the millennium MTV grabbed hold of the genre and ran it into the ground. After showcasing only one chunk of the genre, many fans did not get to hear or witness entirely what it had to offer. MTV and mainstream media's exposure of numerous pop-punk bands eventually led to an explosion of popularity, but with that popularity came an over abundance of trend hopping, label molded projects that forced the genre into becoming a fad. As the pop-punk wave and mainstream exposure fizzled, many bands began to morph like chameleons with the brand new trends and sounds that replaced them in attempt to remain relevant. Some bands called it quits. But the genre never truly died.

Despite the quick flash under the limelight, pop-punk is still alive and well in many fans hearts. The “Pop Punks Not Dead Tour” is proving to the masses that the tight nit community remains and the angst filled, heartfelt, and fun brand is still in full effect. This past Tuesday I got the chance to experience one of my all-time favorite bands live on stage at the new Emo's venue in Austin, Texas. Here, band by band, is what I witnessed in all its glory:

THIS TIME NEXT YEAR

New Found Glory has always been well versed in picking the right bands to tour with and This Time Next Year is no exception. Having never seen this band live, I didn’t know what to expect, and honestly, I was pleasantly surprised! The opening band's purpose is to hype up the crowd and to get them ready for the events to come. TTNY arrived on stage in full force ready to showcase their infectious brand of Californian pop-punk. From the start, this band seemed to have harnessed the energy of a thousand suns and spit it right back at the crowd. With fast-paced guitars and lyrics about partying and friends, TTNY instantly brought the crowd together and set the tone for the rest of the show.

MAN OVERBOARD

This New Jersey pop-punk outfit represent the more polished and melodic side of their genre. Their stage presence is unmatched with the ability to make every individual fan feel like they are getting a private show in their own living room. Hearing the crowd scream back the anxiety-ridden vocals was almost euphoric as the band fed off the energy. As Man Overboard closed their set, they left me with the feeling of wanting more. A solid show from a solid band.

The Wonder Years

The Wonder Years Came bursting on to the stage with their first track, “Came Out Swinging”, off their new album “Suburbia: I’ve Given You All and Now I'm Nothing.” These six south Philly natives showcased their version of the “thinking man’s” pop-punk. TWY showed the crowd no mercy as they jumped around on stage as if it were on fire. Their set contained a mixture of songs from their two full lengths. “Melrose Diner” was a definite crowd pleaser and had fans screaming along with the band: “All I’ve got left are these handfuls of fuck you!,” as if they too had their own personal grudge against the songs muse. They closed with the always electrifying “Washington Square Park”, which was the icing on the cake for a short but sweet 30-minute set.

Set Your Goals

I would be lying if I said I was a fan of this bands music. However, This California based band has a stage presence that rivals most others. With two singers, they have the ability to control a crowd as if hypnosis was part of their repertoire. From the very start, SYG gave the crowd everything they had and then some.

New Found Glory

Often referred to as the “god fathers” or “saviors” of pop-punk, Florida’s own New Found Glory truly brings those labels to fruition with their live show. After almost 15 years as a band, they have the ability to do it bigger and better than every band in their genre. They opened their set with “Understatement”, the 1st track from their critically acclaimed album “Sticks and Stones.” For the next 50 minutes the crowd was bombarded with songs spanning NFG’s 7 albums and 3 EPs. The crowd favorite “Hit or Miss” (a song they have thrown in to every set since 1999) fills the venue with an almost palpable nostalgic feeling. After these pop-punk juggernauts left the stage and the venue goes dark, you hear the crowd roar “NFG! NFG! NFG!” And, as with every New Found Glory show, they return. Their encore begins with their version of Green Day’s (A band often cited as an early influence for them) “Basket Case,” And immediately runs in to The Ramones’ "Blitzkrieg Bop". After playing the title track from their newest release, “Radio Surgery,” The PA system seemingly exploded with the vocals of Jordan Pundik screaming the opening to their most commercially successful song, “My Friends Over You.” This was my 20th time having the privilege of seeing New Found Glory, and as always, they put every ounce of themselves in to their show.

All in all, the tour title said it best: Pop Punk is not dead. On Tuesday night, it was more alive than ever before.

In Case You Missed Them: Rx Bandits

This Week: Rx Bandits

There are many words that could describe the sound of Rx Bandits (aka The Pharmaceutical Bandits): ska, reggae, punk, progressive rock, alternative rock. And all of these genres would be spot on descriptions of this multifaceted Southern California based band. Formed in 1995 in Orange County, the Rx Bandits have rocked stages on the Vans Warped tour, Bonnaroo, Coachella, and The Bamboozle Fest.
Originally known as The Pharmaceutical Bandits, the band began their career by participating in the third wave ska revival of the 1990s. In 1997, they released Those Damn Bandits, which featured guest appearances by Jimmy the Robot of the Aquabats and Chris Colonnier of Jeffries Fan Club and The Forces of Evil. Noting the Bandits' potential, a Los Angeles Times review of the album said "Now comes a young, talented ska band, the Pharmaceutical Bandits. It would be OK with me if the Grinch spared them but swiped their ska records and left a shelf of Who, Clash, Bob Marley, Elvis Costello and Neil Young."[1] Matt Embree attended Los Alamitos High School, which was an incubator for other third wave ska bands such as Reel Big Fish, Save Ferris, and The Scholars.
After 7 full length albums and years of touring, the band decided to give fans a proper send off in the form of a farewell tour. Their final shows, consisting of 36 performances spanning from May 4th to August 7th was announced in April of this year. Although this was announced as their “last tour,” the band has not officially announced a break up. However, if you ask any true RX fan, the RX Bandits have ended their legacy.

Guitarist Steve Choi said: "To clarify, we’re not breaking up. We’re just doing our last tour. What we’re gonna do in the future, we’re not quite sure. That’s a big question because it involves what we’re going to do collectively and what we’re going to do individually. Despite popular belief, we don’t live together, sleep together or eat together. Those days have passed. We all have our own lives to tend to. When we’re not full time touring or playing shows, we gotta handle business…"

In Case You Missed Them: Jawbreaker

This Week: Jawbreaker

Jawbreaker was a punk rock band formed in 1986 and was considered one of the most influential acts of the early 90’s “emo” movement. Blake Schwarzenbach, Chris Bauermeister and Adam Pfahler formed Jawbreaker while attending New York University and showcased a sound that was a healthy mixture of punk and emo. Blake’s personal and frustrated lyrics, along with his insatiable ability to control a live audience, made him a cult-like leader in the ever growing punk/emo genre. After the release of Dear You, their fourth and final release, internal tension between members ultimately lead to the bands demise. I truly recommend this band to anyone who enjoys simple, gritty, angst filled guitar work.
For fans of: Jets To Brazil and Lifetime

Here are some BandSoup bands that you might dig if you like Jawbreaker:

Video: Intentions to Break- Seamstress

What started out as an acoustic trio in the December of 2005, Intentions to Break quickly assembled a full fledged band and employed a full on, sonic assault that could rival any pop-core band.

The 4-piece group, led by the kinetic Danni McPherron, possesses the pop pretense of bands like Paramore, the attitude of Be Your Own Pet, and the fire of Philly hardcore bands like Blacklisted, due to Kevin Buffington (guitar), Michael Cassidy (bass), and Josh Creutz's (drums) pinpoint precision.
There latest album, Heavyweights, is available now!

Videos: The Daily Times- This is Everything x Cause & Effect

The Daily Times is a four piece punk band from Toronto, Canada who have been playing since 2006. After four years, two line-up changes, tons of shitty and great shows, two car accidents, three jam spaces, new born babies, thousands of veggie burgers, tattoos, farts, fights, and a bio written BY them but in the third person: The Daily Times remains unified. So unified that they independently released their debut full length album "Bad News" in 2008. Their second album "Young Today Dead Tomorrow" was released in 2010 and has received solid reviews. The band is currently writing new music and has given their fans a taste of what's to come with the release of their latest single "This Is Everything".
Here is the video for This Is Everything (above) and the video for Cause & Effect (below) from their sophomore release, Young Today Dead Tomorrow.  You can download the full album and single from their bandcamp page right now!

Soup of the Day #13: Pharaohs- Pathetic Energy

Today's soup of the day spotlights a brand new punk trio out of Ithaca, New York who have just released their debut album, Screen World, as a free download.

Pharaohs, with their tricky spelling skills and spastic energy, go all over the musical map on Screen World, mixing high octane indie rock compositions with distorted grunge and vintage punk rock vocals. On "Pathetic Energy", Pharaohs pay homage to the essence of punk rock and The Romantics infamous song while tackling two of the most important issues facing rock stars today: playing guitars and fucking vaginas.

Click Here to Listen to Pathetic Energy on BandSoup

Lead singer Duncan Shea touches on the subjects using poetry as his weapon:

I want to play my guitar, I want to fuck your vaginaIf you let me fuck your vagina, I'll let you play my guitar

This Week on BandSoup (5/30 - 6/6)

Another week in the books and yet another week of great uploads here on BandSoup! Here are a few of the bands that you must hear in case you missed them spinning in the bowl. Remember, you can always click "more songs" on the main page or click into the search box, press the space bar once, and hit enter to see the latest uploads in order.

Click the band's name to hear their music!

Rachel Louise (Singer/Songwriter) -- Rachel is currently residing in the Netherlands and working hard on her debut album. Her songs reveal the expertise of a songwriter and artist beyond her 21 years. Her stage performance is thoroughly entertaining as she is able to relate to an audience of all ages on a personal level. Rachel Louise is a singer/songwriter with pop influences comparable to Maria Mena, Adele, and Vanessa Carlton.

Teenage Kicks (Rock) -- Hailing from Toronto, the quartet - vocalist/guitarist Peter Van Helvoort, bassist Jeff Van Helvoort, guitarist Pat Marchent and drummer Cameron Brunt - satisfy all aspects of the rock spectrum within the confined space of their EP's six songs. Here is a song from the EP, Rational Anthems.

Count to Four (Pop Punk) -- Remember the first time you heard Jimmy Eat World? How about Anberlin? Or when you got your hands on an old Fall Out Boy record? Count to Four knows that feeling: launching out of the real world and into the pop punk universe. A place where even the most vexing problems could be solved or at least addressed in three-minute blasts of galloping drums, charging guitars and lyrics that sound like they’re being sung from the top of a mountain.

Hail Mary Mallon (Alternative Hip Hop) -- After years of performing live together and appearing on each other’s solo albums, critically acclaimed mc’s/producers Aesop Rock and Rob Sonic, along with DJ Big Wiz, come together as Hail Mary Mallon and deliver their Rhymesayers debut Are You Gonna Eat That?.

Shes Got a Habit (Indie Pop) --
The trio began developing their sound, playing with a mix of live drums, samples, and layered voices. They shared a background in hip-hop and jazz and wanted to fuse the heavy beats and lush production styles they loved with softer, more intimate, sounds. The blend they found is both dreamy and momentous, combining hushed vocals and room sounds with glowing synths and huge drums.

GraveRobbers (Americana/Alt-Country) --
While the band prefers to remain ‘genre-less’, you can’t help but tag them with labels like ‘americana’, ‘country’, ‘indie’, and even ‘folk.’ After a handful of different ‘demos’ of home recordings, GraveRobbers recently hit the studio and recorded 12 songs; releasing a 7 song EP entitled “Black Market EP.” With plans for the remaining 5 songs, they are already writing new material and making plans for yet another recording session.

Co$$ (Hip Hop) --
Troy “Co$$” Johnson was born on the South Westside of Los Angeles in a small community east of Crenshaw called “Leimert Park” one of the United State’s top spots for Jazz and home to many of LA‘s finest hip hop artists. He started rapping at the age of 14. These are tracks from his latest free mix tape, Sleepwalking.

Full Crate & Mar (Neo Soul) --
Full Crate (Producer) and Mar (Singer) team up to bring you an incredible blend of sultry soul, hip hop, and R & B.

Itchy Hearts (Folk/Indie Rock) --
Quirky and infectious indie folk from Richmond, Virginia (now residing in Brooklyn, NY).

Red Fang (Rock) --
Red Fang deals in kick-ass heavy rock. On their Chris Funk (DECEMBERISTS) produced, Vance Powell (KINGS OF LEON, WHITE STRIPES, RACONTEURS) mixed Relapse debut Murder the Mountains, the quartet wave a middle finger at fashion and bet the proverbial house on substance over style. The incredible “Wires”, “Number Thirteen”, "Hank Is Dead", and "The Undertow" are just a few of an onslaught of highlights on this front-to-back set of great f%$king songs.

Balor's Eye (Tech Metal) -- With no musical, political, or societal agenda, Balor’s Eye is merely striving to write great music for people to enjoy. Many bands plan out their style, or what kind of songs they want to write, or a certain aspect of uniqueness they want to embody, but Balor’s Eye is simply four dudes pushing themselves as far as possible musically. With the utmost respect for music and dedication to their craft, they create a sound that is very progressive, powerful, technical, groovy, and authentic.

Sky Came Burning (Metal) --  Founded in June 2009, Sky Came Burning is the premier 5 piece metalcore band fresh out of Baltimore. They're looking to change the industry by bringing classic rock/metal roots mixed with today’s heavy/metalcore style to give you a very unique sound and performance.

Video: Challenges- I Was Always Good At Lying

Challenges, an emerging pop-punk band from Worcester, Massachusetts that we wrote about earlier this year, have just released the video for their single, I Was Always Good At Lying, from their debut full length album, We Ruined the Neighborhood.

*Begins slow clap for the girls in the video*
We said: We Ruined the Neighborhood is an 11-track debut record full of hyperactive energy and youthful swagger. Corey Maynard's lead vocals are a pop-punk band's dream and the supporting members' musicianship is surprisingly crisp and refined. I guess Challenges ruined the neighborhood in celebration after they found out they are radio ready.

Challenges

When I was growing up, we had great pop-punk bands available to us on the radio-- Rancid, Green Day, Blink 182, Alkaline Trio, The Offspring, Sum41, and more. Bands with Jolt cola like energy that could bring down house parties and were highly accessible to various music tastes and backgrounds. It feels that a lot of those bands from the 90's have disappeared, but a five piece band from Worcester, Massachusetts is here to fill that void.

Challenges is a pop-punk band fronted by lead vocalist and founder Corey Maynard, lead guitarist/backup vocalist Brian Dempsey, guitarist Danny Massei, bassist James Tripaldi, and drummer RJ Sumblin. After forming in 2009, the band quickly hit the studio to record their first demo, Apollo, which was lauded by MySpace and other social media networks, opening up numerous live performance avenues for the band. Solidifying the band's line-up in June 2009 with the addition of Danny Massei on guitar, James Tripaldi on bass, and Ralph Sumblin on drums, the band set out to write and record their debut full length, We Ruined the Neighborhood. The record was written and recorded with steadfast determination from July 2009 to August 2010 and then officially released on November 26th.

We Ruined the Neighborhood is an 11-track debut record full of hyperactive energy and youthful swagger. Corey Maynard's lead vocals are a pop-punk band's dream and the supporting members' musicianship is surprisingly crisp and refined. I guess Challenges ruined the neighborhood in celebration after they found out they are radio ready.

The new album is now available to stream in full on their bandcamp site and the band was generous enough to put a "name your own price" tag on it, but after you hear their efforts I'm willing to bet you'll fork over your pocket change to help support an emerging band that have what it takes to make it big.

For anyone around the age of 30 and below, Challenges will instantly give you bouts of High School nostalgia where, for some, listening to a discman in class with the earphones hidden in your coat sleeve, shooting v-wads, writing lyrics on your Airwalks, and skating away from school security down the hallways reigned supreme.

Challenges make things fun again.
