The Redneck Manifesto is a five piece instrumental rock band from Dublin, Ireland made up of Mervyn Craig (drums), Richard Egan (bass), Niall Byrne (guitar), Matthew Bolger (guitar) and Neil O'Connor (keyboards). Since their formation in 1998, the band has become one of Ireland's most sought after live acts and popular bands and have proudly achieved this status strictly through their own DIY means, promotion, and releasing records on their own label.

Since 2001, the band has released four touted albums, the most recent being Friendship (2010), which they recently shared some songs from on our website. It has been six years since their last record and the excitement and urgency is instantly heard on the opening song "Black Apple" which bursts from the core at breakneck speed into a haphazard and seamlessly cluttered math-rock exhibition. The beautiful disaster continues with upbeat explosions of sound, transitions, funked out grooves, and rousing riffs.
The Ireland press is already calling the album one of the band's most complete, refined, and best albums to date and claim that fans will instantly form a bond to the album's friendly and optimistic sound. To sum things up in once setence: if you like instrumental rock, meet you new best friend.
The Monikers are a Boston based band displaying an indie pop-rock sound with folk undertones that's reminiscent of Tokyo Police Club and Vampire Weekend. September 2011 saw the release of their Debut EP Taliesin West, which contained five feel good tracks that left you wanting more. Their debut EP is a bit scatter brained, but instead of that being a drawback, I think it's a perfect addition to the ADD culture of music we live in today. Those that need a high dose of Ritalin will appreciate this band's odd mix of surf, pop, rock, folk, jazz, and haphazard change ups and progressions.
To accompany their guessing game on their EP, The Monikers remain a mystery with no background information, pictures, or proof they exist other than their presence on Bandsoup. Until they find the time to reveal more about the band, the music will have to do for now.
Comparable to bands like My Morning Jacket and Band of Horses, Brown Shoe has a voluminous and soaring sound that's built upon layers of moody guitars and airy vocals. The band, made up of four brothers and a close family friend, has a chemistry that oozes throughout their music's anatomy and transmits into their recordings with ease.
On their latest release, The Gift Horse, the band tells a manically expansive and treacherous tale coming off more heavy heartbreak. Their most cohesive album to date, the album tells the story of a love gained and lost twice over, laid out against an inflammatory foundation of the band’s driving rhythm section and subtle guitars and keys. At first blush, it’s easy to get caught up in the pop-sensibilities of songs like “Late Nights” and “Colt Rider,” but listen closer and you’ll catch lines like “You’re not f—ing Jesus/ You’re f—ing me now.” For every one part sweet, the album is four parts salty.
The Gift Horse it the Folsum, California based band's fourth full length album and their most successful so far. Released last week, it is now available on iTunes and Amazon.

Here is the second video, Dinobot, from Teleprompter's self titled EP released earlier this year. The Brisbane, Australia based band continue to show their eccentric and humorous post-punk personalities, as good and evil collide in a King of the Monsters-like battle amongst a cardboard city in hopes to win the beautiful disco ball amulet.
Harris Grade is a Southern California independent alternative rock band best known for their energetic live shows and DIY ethos. The band was originally formed in 2006 by guitarists Caleb Healey and Alex Von Hollen and later joined forces with lead vocalist Robyn August, bass/backup vocalist Jason Friday, and drummer Greg Fulleman in 2008. Since coming together the band has released two EPs and one full length album, most recently releasing Sea In You EP as a free download last month.
The EP, produced by Erik Ron (Saosin, Panic! At The Disco, Foxy Shazam, D.R.U.G.S.), spotlights the band's electric energy and chemistry as the quintet fires up memories of Trapt and Anberlin by smashing infectious hooks, pulsating drums, and lavish guitar licks seamlessly together. The first two tracks, "Mission:Control" and "How to Catch the Bullet", show the band's alternative radio ready chops and the finale, "Oceans", reveals an equally mainstream mindset, but for the softer side of the brain.
Last week the band released the video for "Mission:Control" that features clips from their spastic live shows, fire, and the members smashing shit in a vacant lot.
If I came up to you and said, "BOZEMAN, MONTANA IS BRINGING BACK THE FUNK!", my guess is you would punch me in my molars. But, it's true. At the hands of a multi-talented Bozeman based quintet that go by the name of Cure for the Common, funky dance floor grooves have returned with a vengeance.
Since the first jam in December 2008, Cure for the Common has sought to bring together great friends, good vibes, the funkiest jams, and a smash it all into a blow-out, get-down celebration that refuses to go quietly into the night. Music is the cure, and CFTC is out to free ladies and gentlemen everywhere of their daily pains. To accomplish this task, Logan Stahley and his dazzling trumpet weave screaming ribbons of spicy latin funk into Weston Lewis's heavily groovy guitar, distilling a crazy-potent shock to your senses. While your head bobs in anticipation of the next lick, Joe Sheehan and Jordan Rodenbiker sculpt the musical pillars of groove that you must feel to believe. Once you're bubbling, shaking, squirming and sizzling like an earthquake is deep in your hips, superb synthetic sensations blend with Garrett Rhinard's own secret recipe of keys, rhythm, and rhyme to blow the lid off of this highly combustible mix, relentlessly sending the dance floor into overdrive.
This is easily heard on their debut self titled album that was released this past April, which features nine funked out jams covering a multitude of genres from funk, alternative, jam band, pop, reggae, latin, and hip hop. If you are a music nut, a fan of jam bands, and dance in public like you do in the shower, Cure for the Common is a future Bonnaroo show stealer ready to alleviate all your funkless ailments.
Ryli is a self-taught, multi-talented musician who composes and records her own music. She spent her teenage years playing in various punk and rock ‘n roll bands before taking off to travel Mexico at age 19 with little more than her acoustic guitar. During her travels, she began writing solo music for the first time. Later, she spent time in several U.S. cities before eventually taking a job offer and moving to the province of Asturias, in northern Spain. After settling in, she set herself up with an amateur home-recording studio and has been producing recordings regularly ever since.
On her song "Holding On", from her new Here I Am EP that will be released tomorrow, Ryli speaks on letting go of your dreams over a dreamy synth-pop soundtrack.
It has been quite an amazing journey to witness Outasight's rise to fame and musical growth from his humble beginnings in 2007. I have been there from the beginning-- Employee of the Month EP and Radio New York-- where Outasight's original blend of singing and rapping immediately caught the ears of the hip hop blogosphere, which catapulted his career into the next level where he mastered his style with top notch producers and eventually signed with Warner Brothers Records.
After numerous successful mixtapes and albums, Outasight's first big break post major label signing was his new song and commercial with Pepsi that debuted on the first episode of the X-Factor. "Tonight is the Night" is the song you hear in the commercial that shows clips of Britney Spears, Madonna, Michael Jackson, and Kanye West.

For our first podcast, we selected a chunk of songs from the Soup of the Day posts that have been featured on the blog over the last few months. Over 14-tracks, we highlight music from: Greenhorse, Radioviolet, Son of the Sun, Diverbird, Andrew Heringer, High Highs, Modern Skirts, Sun Hotel, The Love Junkies, Teleprompter, Circus Town, Drgn King, The Outerlys, and Pharaohs.
Formed in late 2009, Circus Town are Gavin Morris (vocals & guitar), Paul Cooper (bass guitar) and Andrew Gibney (drums). The self proclaimed "dirtiest three piece band to ever be allowed to leave the shores of Birmingham" boast a sound full of bluesy guitars, thundering drums, and vocals that sound like a mix of Jack White, Neil Young, and Nathan Willet.
"3", from the band's latest 3 EP, shows the band slowing it down a bit, putting there disjointed and distorted ethos to rest for a moment as they tackle a stripped down, radio friendly song that shines a bright spotlight on Gavin Morris' emotional wails.
Journeyman musician Ryan McMahon is on the hunt for something bigger. After ten years of writing and performing his music in relative obscurity, while splitting time between Vancouver and his hometown of Ladysmith, British Columbia, McMahon is focusing on expanding his reach and mainstream success that has eluded him his entire career. Over the last decade, McMahon has toured Canada 10 times, released 2 full-length albums, 2 EP's, and a live record, seen his music licensed both Nationally and abroad, and heard his music on both commercial and college radio Canada-wide. But it's 2011 and two brand new albums that Ryan hopes take him to the next level.

Full of boot stomping bar anthems (Big Highs, Big Lows, We Live Forever, One Way) and dusty stories that could serve as a soundtrack for nomadic human tumbleweeds (Southpaw, I'll Be Damned), Put the Past in a Flask & Drink is for music fans that love good storytelling rock and americana, but can live without the twang.
Brooklyn's Fishdoctor are being dubbed 80's pop resurrectors and a well-rehearsed live band that obviously love to perform. This is high praise for a band that began as a bedroom studio project.
Fishdoctor combines elements of pop, electro, surf, and alternative rock into one contagious bubble of danceable noise. Recently, the band completed their first video, Summertime in the Wintertime, a song off their 2011 EP, I'm With the Bandwidth.

The New Orleans based quintet Sun Hotel are on fire with the sound of what they call post-gospel. On their latest EP, Gifts, the band blaze through 5 tracks armed with fuzzy, drifting ambient guitars, infectious four-part harmonies, thundering rhythms, and biting lyrics.
On "Alchemy", lead singer Tyler Scurlock leads their haunt with cortex piercing words and an oddly alluring voice that perfectly accents the surrounding haze of guitars, strings and echoing vocals, which together metastasize slowly into one of the best indie rock songs of the year.
What is pop-punk? Well, at the turn of the millennium MTV grabbed hold of the genre and ran it into the ground. After showcasing only one chunk of the genre, many fans did not get to hear or witness entirely what it had to offer. MTV and mainstream media's exposure of numerous pop-punk bands eventually led to an explosion of popularity, but with that popularity came an over abundance of trend hopping, label molded projects that forced the genre into becoming a fad. As the pop-punk wave and mainstream exposure fizzled, many bands began to morph like chameleons with the brand new trends and sounds that replaced them in attempt to remain relevant. Some bands called it quits. But the genre never truly died.
Despite the quick flash under the limelight, pop-punk is still alive and well in many fans hearts. The “Pop Punks Not Dead Tour” is proving to the masses that the tight nit community remains and the angst filled, heartfelt, and fun brand is still in full effect. This past Tuesday I got the chance to experience one of my all-time favorite bands live on stage at the new Emo's venue in Austin, Texas. Here, band by band, is what I witnessed in all its glory:
THIS TIME NEXT YEAR
New Found Glory has always been well versed in picking the right bands to tour with and This Time Next Year is no exception. Having never seen this band live, I didn’t know what to expect, and honestly, I was pleasantly surprised! The opening band's purpose is to hype up the crowd and to get them ready for the events to come. TTNY arrived on stage in full force ready to showcase their infectious brand of Californian pop-punk. From the start, this band seemed to have harnessed the energy of a thousand suns and spit it right back at the crowd. With fast-paced guitars and lyrics about partying and friends, TTNY instantly brought the crowd together and set the tone for the rest of the show.
MAN OVERBOARD
This New Jersey pop-punk outfit represent the more polished and melodic side of their genre. Their stage presence is unmatched with the ability to make every individual fan feel like they are getting a private show in their own living room. Hearing the crowd scream back the anxiety-ridden vocals was almost euphoric as the band fed off the energy. As Man Overboard closed their set, they left me with the feeling of wanting more. A solid show from a solid band.
The Wonder Years
The Wonder Years Came bursting on to the stage with their first track, “Came Out Swinging”, off their new album “Suburbia: I’ve Given You All and Now I'm Nothing.” These six south Philly natives showcased their version of the “thinking man’s” pop-punk. TWY showed the crowd no mercy as they jumped around on stage as if it were on fire. Their set contained a mixture of songs from their two full lengths. “Melrose Diner” was a definite crowd pleaser and had fans screaming along with the band: “All I’ve got left are these handfuls of fuck you!,” as if they too had their own personal grudge against the songs muse. They closed with the always electrifying “Washington Square Park”, which was the icing on the cake for a short but sweet 30-minute set.
Set Your Goals
I would be lying if I said I was a fan of this bands music. However, This California based band has a stage presence that rivals most others. With two singers, they have the ability to control a crowd as if hypnosis was part of their repertoire. From the very start, SYG gave the crowd everything they had and then some.
New Found Glory
Often referred to as the “god fathers” or “saviors” of pop-punk, Florida’s own New Found Glory truly brings those labels to fruition with their live show. After almost 15 years as a band, they have the ability to do it bigger and better than every band in their genre. They opened their set with “Understatement”, the 1st track from their critically acclaimed album “Sticks and Stones.” For the next 50 minutes the crowd was bombarded with songs spanning NFG’s 7 albums and 3 EPs. The crowd favorite “Hit or Miss” (a song they have thrown in to every set since 1999) fills the venue with an almost palpable nostalgic feeling. After these pop-punk juggernauts left the stage and the venue goes dark, you hear the crowd roar “NFG! NFG! NFG!” And, as with every New Found Glory show, they return. Their encore begins with their version of Green Day’s (A band often cited as an early influence for them) “Basket Case,” And immediately runs in to The Ramones’ "Blitzkrieg Bop". After playing the title track from their newest release, “Radio Surgery,” The PA system seemingly exploded with the vocals of Jordan Pundik screaming the opening to their most commercially successful song, “My Friends Over You.” This was my 20th time having the privilege of seeing New Found Glory, and as always, they put every ounce of themselves in to their show.
All in all, the tour title said it best: Pop Punk is not dead. On Tuesday night, it was more alive than ever before.
As October's full moon takes place tonight, Glasgow post-rock band El Dog decided to tease their forthcoming album, Hey Werewolves, set to release November 10th, by showing a Teen Wolf video montage with their new song "Cub" playing in the background.
There are many words that could describe the sound of Rx Bandits (akaThe Pharmaceutical Bandits): ska, reggae, punk, progressive rock, alternative rock. And all of these genres would be spot on descriptions of this multifaceted Southern California based band. Formed in 1995 in Orange County, the Rx Bandits have rocked stages on the Vans Warped tour, Bonnaroo, Coachella, and The Bamboozle Fest.
Originally known as The Pharmaceutical Bandits, the band began their career by participating in the third wave ska revival of the 1990s. In 1997, they released Those Damn Bandits, which featured guest appearances by Jimmy the Robot of the Aquabats and Chris Colonnier of Jeffries Fan Club and The Forces of Evil. Noting the Bandits' potential, a Los Angeles Times review of the album said "Now comes a young, talented ska band, the Pharmaceutical Bandits. It would be OK with me if the Grinch spared them but swiped their ska records and left a shelf of Who, Clash, Bob Marley, Elvis Costello and Neil Young."[1] Matt Embree attended Los Alamitos High School, which was an incubator for other third wave ska bands such as Reel Big Fish, Save Ferris, and The Scholars.
After 7 full length albums and years of touring, the band decided to give fans a proper send off in the form of a farewell tour. Their final shows, consisting of 36 performances spanning from May 4th to August 7th was announced in April of this year. Although this was announced as their “last tour,” the band has not officially announced a break up. However, if you ask any true RX fan, the RX Bandits have ended their legacy.
Guitarist Steve Choi said: "To clarify, we’re not breaking up. We’re just doing our last tour. What we’re gonna do in the future, we’re not quite sure. That’s a big question because it involves what we’re going to do collectively and what we’re going to do individually. Despite popular belief, we don’t live together, sleep together or eat together. Those days have passed. We all have our own lives to tend to. When we’re not full time touring or playing shows, we gotta handle business…"
Hailing from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma is the best band you've never heard of: Dr. Smith.
Led by the "Pied Piper of Soul and Rock and Roll"Norman Breedlove, Dr. Smith is a five piece rock enigma that has rocked every crevice of the 405 for over twenty years and still somehow remain unnoticed. Recently, the band has picked up on their web and social media presence, which in turn has given us the greatest music video of the last decade, Zombie Bitches Kicking Peoples Ass.
This song appears on their 2010 record, Songs From the Heart, a surefire future classic that features their other smash singles: Burn, Timmy, and The Time Is Right.
In my opinion, Dr. Smith are on the verge of blowing up. Their tongue in cheek ethos mixed with their infectious energy, punk rock art stylings, and viral ready visuals is a perfect package in becoming the next big internet sensation. With a plethora of hilarious videos and an attitude that is SORELY missed and forgotten throughout the industry, Dr. Smith is what rock and roll needs. These guys deserve to be Oklahoma's most beloved and celebrated band alongside The Flaming Lips.

Freeman Dre and The Kitchen Party take their name from the timeless tradition of friends and neighbors gathering together in the kitchen for an evening of laughter, drinks and music. Despite the casual atmosphere in which they create their songs, make no mistake; onstage, The Kitchen Party is tighter than a three-day drunk! The soul of this music comes from Freeman Dre's apartment in the heart of one of Toronto's most creatively fertile neighborhoods: Parkdale. It's a place where friends hang out in the kitchen most every night, where a raccoon recently tried to give birth in Dre's vinyl collection, where tales get spun, and where a lot of music gets made.
Winner of NOW magazine's reader's poll for best songwriter in 2010, Dre's writing style is based in realism. Characterized by highly original lyrics and his signature raspy singing voice, his songs frequently portray dark and seedy situations and characters, although he also has a penchant for more conventional ballads. From the story-telling of "Oak Tree" to the vagabond sentiments of "Let's Take The Show On The Road," to the bittersweet romance of "Saturday Night in Parkdale", Dre's songs paint vivid portraits of life in his community.
If you listen to their selections on BandSoup, you might instantly write them off as a blues band; instead, Freeman Dre & The Kitchen Party embody an eclectic mix of folk, blues, and rock that will knock your socks off. Their album, Red Door, Second Floor, released earlier this year is a testament to that statement. Over 12-tracks, Freeman Dre will hypnotize you with his throaty vocals and imagery and The Kitchen Party will surprise you with their dexterity and exuberant instrumentals.
Otis Heat is a lovable blues rock band from Portland, Oregon that released their debut album, Yoon, earlier this year. These purveyors of bluesy grooves, rugged bass lines, and refined riffs are sure to grab your attention with their Jam in the Van performance and their video for "Everybody Loves Me the Same Way", so open your third eye and allow the heat to melt your face.
Los Angeles, California singer songwriter Andrew Heringer has his hands and voice in many musical pots, but his 2010 album, Under California Skies, with the Andrew Heringer Band remains one of his best projects to date. This beautiful record bleeds folk, rock, and americana influences as Heringer was listening to Ryan Adams, Wilco, Bob Dylan and Counting Crows during the process. Most of the lyrics on the album deal with change in life with relationships, early adulthood, and the concept of home and belonging somewhere, which is encompassed in the album's opening song and today's Soup of the Day: Roads
Roads is a stellar recording, both in its mention of starry nights and its quality, that blossomed from a free write poem. You will hear a lot of Ryan Adams in this track, but the influences do not overpower the musicianship, songwriting, and replay value in one of the best folk songs that I have come across on the site so far.
Bernard "Pretty" Purdie is the world's most recorded drummer and is considered an influential and innovative exponent of funk. Bernard's extensive list of contributions to some of the greatest music ever made speaks for itself. He has recorded with: James Brown, Aretha Franklin, BB King, Robert Palmer, Steely Dan, Dizzie Gillespie, Miles Davis, The Beatles, Cat Stevens Hall & Oates, Joe Cocker, and much more.

Summer has sadly come to an end. Slowly, for most of us, the shorts and tanks will soon be replaced by jeans and hoodies and memories of BBQs, trips to the beach, and poolside drinks will fade with the foliage. If you aren't ready to hand over your summer quite yet, there is something you can do to hold onto it a little while longer-- Jet West.
Hailing from one of my favorite sunny cities in California, San Diego's Jet West is a fairly new rock/reggae quintet serving up shooters of feel good vibrations all year round. Last year the band released their debut album Dropping In, which featured fifteen reggae spiked songs littered with beautiful guitar work, touches of psychedelia, hazy horns, and passionate vocals. In the same vein as Pepper, Slightly Stoopid, and 311, Jet West makes accessible reggae fusion music that is best received in the summer months, but can inject a sense of serenity and joy into any party, no matter the weather situation outside.
